What is a section or level adaptive computer based test?

Computer–based test simply means that the test is delivered on a computer. When we say section or level adaptive it means that the questions and difficulty level of questions in subsequent sections will be decided based our performance in the first section. This is applicable in the quantitative reasoning section and the verbal reasoning section but not in the analytical writing section. GRE revised general test is a level-adaptive CBT whereas GMAT is a computer adaptive test or CAT. In a computer adaptive test the difficulty level of each question will be based on the difficulty level and answer to the previous question.
